Storm Smart's mission is to educate students in Miami-Dade County about effective hurricane preparation. As the climate grows warmer and storms increase in strength rapidly, it is imperative that everyone knows how to prepare for storms. Unfortunately, this is not a subject currently taught in schools. In order to teach students this material, we provide a series of three Storm Smart modules that encompass building a hurricane kit, staying safe during a storm, and what to do after one hits. This curriculum will be taught in middle schools, but not by teachers, it will be taught by the students themselves. We then send volunteers to reinforce the information in the minds of students by bringing hurricane preparation games and and answering any questions students may have. To ensure that this vital information is widely accessible, we also publish all of our resources online—both on our website and on social media.
